Janice

The first artist I ever met was my grandmother, Janice Leibnau. As a child I would go to her house on Ocean Street in Ventura, California. Tall well-established eucalyptus trees shaded the sidewalk and driveway nearest her house; while the lone enormous pine cast it’s mighty shadow over the backyard garden beds. Inside her home were book shelves of essential novels, jazz records, and classical ensembles. An upright piano stood against the North wall of her living room, while a drafting board and painting easel sat caddy beside wide windows peering outdoors. I thought to myself “grandma is an artist,” and have never forgotten the likes. Her love of song, dance and painting has forever impacted me. Please enjoy this week’s featured painting “Janice” by Janice Leibnau circa 1995.
